Summary

Geralt is a witcher, a man whose magic powers, enhanced by long training and a mysterious elixir, have made him a brilliant fighter and a merciless assassin。 Yet he is no ordinary murderer: his targets are the multifarious monsters and vile fiends that ravage the land and attack the innocent。

This was a fascinating collection of short stories。 I love Geralt and Dandelion and their banter。 All of these "side quest" stories all add up。 I'm looking forward to getting into the full story。 This was a fascinating collection of short stories。 I love Geralt and Dandelion and their banter。 All of these "side quest" stories all add up。 I'm looking forward to getting into the full story。 。。。more

A shard of ice & a little sacrifice, will be two of my favourite short stories。 A pair of poignant character studies。

sapkowski pisze takie sceny erotyczne, że można łatwo dostać gęsiej skórki w złym sensie i jest to ogromny minus całej serii na pewno

Last two short stories completely redeem everything wrong with these story collections and they're the best thing this man has written so far。 I broke down in tears; finally all the talk about destiny has serious, significant, emotionally impactful weight and consequences behind it and its mark on the many intertwined characters is unmistakable。 No way can I give an objective star rating after that。 Last two short stories completely redeem everything wrong with these story collections and they're the best thing this man has written so far。 I broke down in tears; finally all the talk about destiny has serious, significant, emotionally impactful weight and consequences behind it and its mark on the many intertwined characters is unmistakable。 No way can I give an objective star rating after that。 。。。more

What marvelous stories。The way the book presents itself as an anthology is a great way to have an idea of the range of activities/adventures Geralt faces in his day-to-day。 The no-commitment approach an anthology provides to the reading allows the reader to safely engage with the material and not fret about forgetting an important detail a couple of pages in。The stories themselves are great, as they each provide an insight into Geralt and those around him, while at the same time aiming towards s What marvelous stories。The way the book presents itself as an anthology is a great way to have an idea of the range of activities/adventures Geralt faces in his day-to-day。 The no-commitment approach an anthology provides to the reading allows the reader to safely engage with the material and not fret about forgetting an important detail a couple of pages in。The stories themselves are great, as they each provide an insight into Geralt and those around him, while at the same time aiming towards something more。 。。。more

Enjoyed this even more than the first book! Loved all the different stories of Geralt, and how they help you to see the big picture, and what they’re leading you to- Ciri, and her being his destiny。

Although not every story contained within this collection reaches soaring heights, the high points are exemplary of exactly what I look for in the fantasy genre。 In particular, the last two stories; the titular Sword of Destiny and Something More, moved me to a degree that I did not expect coming from The Last Wish。 Beyond the presentation of a modern and subversive fairy-tale, the stories capture grand themes such as that of destiny and the belief therein, told through the intimate lens of a fa Although not every story contained within this collection reaches soaring heights, the high points are exemplary of exactly what I look for in the fantasy genre。 In particular, the last two stories; the titular Sword of Destiny and Something More, moved me to a degree that I did not expect coming from The Last Wish。 Beyond the presentation of a modern and subversive fairy-tale, the stories capture grand themes such as that of destiny and the belief therein, told through the intimate lens of a familial bond between a guardian and child of fate。 The stories have an almost dream-like quality, quite literal in the case of Something More, that distinguishes them and enhances the emotional impact of the content。With the last two stories being worth the price of admission alone, you may be asking, “what about the other stories in this collection?” To give perspective, Sapkowski had clearly hit his stride with this batch of stories in learning to balance tone, mood, character, and world building。 Geralt seems much more established as a character and, as such, there is far more room to explore other facets of his universe。 The chaotic romance between him and Yennefer is a perfect example of a thread explored in increasing detail across multiple stories。 Sapkowski also leans into humor for an entire story, The Eternal Flame, to great effect。 The world of the Witcher can be goofy at times, and it’s lovely to see that acknowledged and explored with the same sincerity as the oftentimes dark and gloomy nature of the Witcher-verse。 I could gush about aspects of each story individually, but that is besides the point。 The collection is solid and the threads are set in place to begin the novels。 I’m all in at this point。4/5 。。。more

I loved how the ending was, loved it 。。。 leaves you with an awesome feeling "Something More"。Returning to the book, the actions continues like in the 1st one, monsters here and there (not going into spoilers this time)。 We do found out more about the Witcher his feelings, emotions and its not as everybody things a killing machine for money, also we do have the pleasure to observe the first meeting between him and Ciri in the forest of Brokilon (Gwynbleidd - name of Gerald in the forest of Brokil I loved how the ending was, loved it 。。。 leaves you with an awesome feeling "Something More"。Returning to the book, the actions continues like in the 1st one, monsters here and there (not going into spoilers this time)。 We do found out more about the Witcher his feelings, emotions and its not as everybody things a killing machine for money, also we do have the pleasure to observe the first meeting between him and Ciri in the forest of Brokilon (Gwynbleidd - name of Gerald in the forest of Brokilon)。We do have another confirmation that the serials … well its quite inferior to the book BUT, the visualizations from the serials helps you construct a better image about all the interactions, places and characters from the book (it really helps, or at least helped me)。I had to say it, this time, the book, … its much more awesome compared to the serial。The book has 6 stories, of course the one in which him and Ciri meets for the 1st time, was blasting I love it。 The stories are more focused vs the 1st one which had actions here and there, but you will have it all, monsters, dragons, mermaids(something like little mermaids story ), mysterious see creatures, doppelgangers and of course who else, Ciri。Reading the 1st and this book, clearly builds the scene for the big novel or at least when reading the "blood of elves" I had this feeling。 There are still some well peculiar descriptions when it comes to women, for which I haven't felt would add something to the action/character or even the scene。 ( those who take this serious, I think will found it with a bad vibe in mind, myself just ignored it and focused on the story itself)。 I do found to be funny thought, when he describes Gerald as a "poppet" around/closed to Yeniffer (in love teenager, cloudy mind, bubbling etc) VS visualize him fighting monsters (manly, strong, determined, planning etc)。To give thought credit to the serial, an aider for me was, especially, in the story "Something More" -- in the book I struggled to imagine were you are and when you jumped from the dream into reality (or past vs present), it's the story were he meets his mother Visina。This book has less rumble and its even more focused on emotions, feelings and deeper conversations give it a try, it’s a charm especially when you will find out about Yeniffer unicorn:)! 。。。more

The second Witcher anthology。 The stories are fun to read and help flesh out the characters and the world more, but after I finish the entire series, I want to do some research and see if I can get more insight into Sapkowski's evolution as an author。 The two anthologies have fun stories but I get the feeling Sapkowski hadn't decided what he wanted to do yet; there was some foreshadowing hinting at a bigger story but it felt like he didn't want to commit to a full novel yet。 Anyway, I'm really l The second Witcher anthology。 The stories are fun to read and help flesh out the characters and the world more, but after I finish the entire series, I want to do some research and see if I can get more insight into Sapkowski's evolution as an author。 The two anthologies have fun stories but I get the feeling Sapkowski hadn't decided what he wanted to do yet; there was some foreshadowing hinting at a bigger story but it felt like he didn't want to commit to a full novel yet。 Anyway, I'm really looking forward to starting the first novel。 。。。more

Much like the first book, it is a collection of short stories leading to and connected with the main story。 I found a few of the short stories in this one to be less interesting than in the first, but the progression of the main story was great。 I am becoming more and more attached to Geralt, Dandelion, and Ciri, while feeling less and less connected with Yennefer at all。 The author does a great job of allowing the reader to feel Geralts emotions although he himself cannot。

This is the second short story installment in the WITCHER Series。 And it’s main theme= Destiny! We meet a few more fun monsters, learn a little more about the WITCHER Trials and get a few more questions answered about the importance of Destiny in the WITCHERverse as well as within Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri’s lives。It is now up to them to choose the role they will allow it to play in their lives and in their relationships。
